Visit from the children

Isobelle and the children went to visit Nelson on Saturday for a couple of hours. Isobelle wrote up this account of their visit:

We found him alone in his room, dressed and seated by the window looking out.
He was very pleased to see us and was talkative with lots of questions to the children about
breakfast and things they had done.

He was amazed by the boys height and they may well be 5'11" now. Lyndon and Marlon teased
their Dad and got him laughing and making jokes.

I brought in a 'Draughts and 'Noughts & Crosses' board that is wooden he can play with visitors.
He played a game with me and won! Lots of concentration but soon got the hang of direction and
how to make a move, he ended up with three kings and whooped me!

Lunch arrived on a tray and he ate most of it. Avalon ate his green jelly that had odd looking bits in it.
Our children lined up on the other bed opposite Nelson and he had fun with 'Pookie' (Nelson's teddy bear) mucking up. He did this when they were all toddlers and it was very funny as Nelson got the maximum expression out of Pookie. With Nelson following my read aloud instructions from the Speech Therapy sheets on 'doing ' words, Pookie was put through his paces.

Nelson spoke very well and used the majority of his words correctly.  I explained about his exercises,
the more he does the quicker he's out of there. He read the time correctly off the wall clock and wants to
leave as soon as possible.

Nelson was happy to see us and a little sad to see us leave, but we left when we could see signs of tiredness in the hopes he'd have a good sleep. He seems to be catching up on restorative peace and quiet and able to close the door and be private - something he's not enjoyed for many weeks now.
